IONM training program

IONM Concepts and Practice, an ABRET-Recognized Formal Training

IntraNerve Neuroscience offers the IONM Concepts and Practice program, a fully structured, ABRET-recognized IONM training program designed to prepare motivated individuals for a successful career as a Certified Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (CNIM) technologist.

If you’re coming from neurodiagnostics, EEG, or a science-related background, or you’re ready to start fresh in the operating room, our program combines real-world clinical experience with the didactic education you need to become a confident surgical neurophysiologist.

We hire you into a full-time, paid training role from day one, so you can focus on learning without the stress of unpaid internships or relocation.

How Our Training Program Works

We believe the best way to learn intraoperative neuromonitoring is through a balanced, hybrid approach that mirrors real surgical environments. That’s why our program blends:

Mentor-led clinical training directly in the operating room alongside experienced CNIM technologists and neurophysiologists

Structured didactic education covering neuroanatomy, signal acquisition, interpretation, and troubleshooting

Self-paced online modules delivered through our Talent LMS platform

Most trainees complete the entire program in the region where they are hired. There is no national relocation requirement, so you can train and work where you live, gaining hands-on experience with local surgical teams from the very beginning.

ABRET Recognition and CNIM Pathway IV

IntraNerve’s IONM Concepts and Practice program is officially recognized by ABRET as a Formal IONM Training Program. This is a significant advantage for anyone pursuing CNIM certification.

Graduates of our program qualify for CNIM Pathway IV, which streamlines the certification process. Specifically, you will need only 150 documented IONM cases and current CPR/BLS certification. Upon successful completion, you receive an official certificate of program completion that ABRET accepts directly, giving you a clear and efficient route to sitting for the CNIM exam.

What the Training Experience Looks Like

Training is progressive and hands-on. You begin with close supervision and gradually take on increasing responsibility as your skills develop. Over the course of the program you will:

  • Participate in a wide variety of surgical cases, including complex spine, cranial, neurotology, vascular, and peripheral nerve procedures
  • Gain proficiency in multimodal monitoring techniques such as SSEP, MEP, EMG, BAER, and more
  • Receive one-on-one mentorship and regular feedback from senior technologists
  • Follow a standardized curriculum used across all IntraNerve locations, ensuring consistent, high-quality preparation no matter where you train

Because the program is standardized nationwide, every trainee receives the same rigorous foundation while still benefiting from the unique case mix and surgical partners in their specific region.

Who This Program Is For

This training pathway is designed for individuals who are passionate about patient safety and real-time clinical decision-making in the operating room. Candidates must be okay with a dynamic work schedule opposed to a set 9-5 job. Ideal candidates typically have:

  • A bachelor’s degree (preferred) or associate degree in neuroscience, biology, physiology, biomedical engineering, or a closely related field
  • A strong interest in neurophysiology and surgical environments
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-stakes setting
  • The desire for a meaningful career with excellent compensation and long-term growth opportunities

No prior IONM experience is required, we will train you from the ground up.

After Training: Certification & Career Growth

Successful graduates receive their ABRET-recognized certificate of completion and move seamlessly into a full-time Surgical Neurophysiologist role with IntraNerve. We also provide an internal CNIM board review program to help prepare you for the certification exam, with many of our trainees passing on their first attempt.

From there, the career path is yours to build. Many of our program graduates advance into senior technologist, trainer, lead, or clinical leadership positions within the company.
